What makes Care Lactation different ?
Hear from Leanne the founder of Care Lactation…….
About Care Lactation
Private in-home lactation support for families in Warrnambool and South West Victoria.
Whether you’re looking for help with preparing before your little one arrives, breastfeeding your newborn, learning normal baby behaviour, monitoring your baby’s growth, or any other concerns related to breastfeeding, we can work together to create a realistic plan suited to your individual needs - no lectures or rigid checklists here! Just warmth, understanding, and a desire to help.
Care Lactation will provide a supportive and caring environment to help you achieve your own personal feeding goals and feel comfortable, confident, and empowered on your breastfeeding journey.
Breastfeeding is natural - but natural doesn’t always mean easy. I can offer care that may reduce the likelihood of developing complications while also being there to support you if they do arise. Research indicates* that breastfeeding advice for new mothers can be conflicting in nature, often leaving them confused. Imagine consistency in this advice provided to you by your own private Lactation Consultant, this is what Care Lactation will offer you.

Meet Leanne
Founder of Care Lactation Warrnambool
As an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), a Registered Nurse Div 1 (RN) and Registered Midwife (RM) of over 20 years, I have worked with many breastfeeding mothers and newborn babies. After experiencing difficulties in the early days breastfeeding my own 3 children, I know firsthand that breastfeeding can be hard work when you are learning how to get it right. I am very proud to now be able to offer private in-home lactation support and personal one-on-one care to set your baby up for the best start to life. I’m here to offer gentle guidance for as long as you need me.
What is an IBCLC/ Lactation Consultant (LC)?
Your breastfeeding support professional
The simple answer: IBCLC stands for International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. IBCLC’s are the gold standard in assistance for parents and baby regarding all aspects of breastfeeding, from prenatal preparation to common concerns to more complex or unusual issues.
IBCLCs are internationally certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE). According to the IBLCE, at the end of 2021, there were 33,492 IBCLCs worldwide with only 2,084 in Australia. An IBCLC must undertake minimum lactation specific education and at minimum, 1000 hours of clinical practice before sitting an examination to obtain their qualification.
Recertification each 5 years ensures their knowledge is evidence-based and current. An IBCLC will advocate for you with other health care professionals and provide support, understanding and care in what can be a challenging time.
When it comes to breastfeeding, research indicates that the right support leads to better feeding outcomes and longer duration of breastfeeding. *

Services Offered
Education
The best way to be prepared is to educate yourself!
Care Lactation provide in-depth information, care, and support with all services, whether you’re preparing for your baby’s arrival or in the thick of the newborn stage, empowering you to feel confident and independent with your feeding and newborn baby care.
Depending on your needs and situation, we’ll cover what to expect, ways to prepare for successful breastfeeding, normal newborn behaviour, parent-crafting skills such as bathing and wrapping, tips on settling baby, and common feeding problems. I will answer any specific concerns or questions you may have and formulate an individualised care plan for you and your baby. Importantly, I’ll also help you understand what’s normal and when and where to get help if you need it.
Feeding Support
Had your baby and it’s still early days? Down the track and need some help?
No matter what stage you’re at, I’m here to help.
Some of the concerns I can assist with include:
one on one prenatal education
assistance with correct positioning and attachment to the breast
assessment of a breastfeed
low/over milk supply
expressing and storing your breastmilk
transitioning from bottle or top-up feeds to full breastfeeding
weaning your baby from the breast
lactation support after loss
I have a range of one-off packages and bundled options to provide all the support you will need.
Monitoring your baby’s growth
Reassurance that your baby is growing well
Your baby gaining weight is only part of the breastfeeding equation. There are a number of signs that your baby is feeding well and weight gain is only one of them. You may find reassurance with some regular weight checks. This service may be especially relevant in the early days of establishing your milk supply, if your baby is on the smaller side, born prematurely, having top-up feeds, or transitioning to full breastfeeds. I am able to weigh your baby and provide guidance for any concerns you may have.
In-Home Support
Professional breastfeeding support in the comfort of your own home.
All of my visits are carried out right in your own home, with options for follow up sessions via phone/virtual consult. It’s important to me that you feel comfortable and relaxed during our sessions and it allows me to work with your own space and setup - plus I know how difficult it can be trying to get out to appointments with a little person!
I will travel to your home in Warrnambool and throughout the South West. Locations more than 15kms drive from the Warrnambool CBD will incur a fee in addition to the consult- please see my services page for details.
Leanne is now also a Certified Infant Massage Instructor !
